Wyrmspan is a board game for 1-5 players where you act as a dracologist, building a sanctuary to attract dragons. The game lasts four rounds, with players taking turns until they decide to pass.
Gameplay revolves around five core actions: excavating spaces in your sanctuary, enticing dragons to inhabit those spaces, and exploring three different caves on your player mat. To excavate or entice, you’ll need to pay costs in coins and sometimes eggs. Exploring, on the other hand, lets you activate special abilities of your dragons and caves.
Dragons come in different sizes and with unique abilities that can trigger when played, when activated by your adventurer, once per round, or at game’s end. You’ll need to strategically manage resources like gold, meat, crystal, and milk to pay for these dragons and their abilities.
Additionally, there’s the Dragon Guild, a track where you can earn advancements to gain benefits. Furthermore, the game features public objectives that change each round, adding another layer of strategy as you compete for points.
At game’s end, you’ll score points based on various factors. Consequently, the player with the most points wins. Notably, Wyrmspan shares some similarities with the popular board game Wingspan, but introduces new mechanisms and strategic elements. All in all, Wyrmspan offers a rich, engaging experience for strategy game enthusiasts.
